Editor's Note - This post was originally published in September of 2016, when the PAX 3 was announced. Since then, PAX has made a number of changes to the PAX 3's availability and offerings. Please check out our PAX 2 & 3 Update Post for more information, or the PAX 3 Review for our full, hands-on impressions.

Dual use: concentrates & dry herbs
The biggest addition to the PAX 3 is that it will vaporize concentrates in addition to dry herbs with the included concentrate insert. Switch out the original dry herb magnetic oven lid for the new concentrates insert and you're ready to go. With sales of concentrates exploding over the last year, this adds quite a bit of versatility to the PAX 3.
Faster, more efficient heating
The PAX 3 features a heater that is twice is powerful as the PAX 2 resulting in heat up times of less than 15 seconds and subsequent heat ups being nearly instant. PAX Labs put a lot of technology into the PAX 2 to conserve battery life and your material and it looks like the PAX 3 took this a step further.
Using a motion detecting accelerometer and lip sensing technology, the PAX 3 knows when you are vaping or when it is sitting on a table. With the more powerful heater, we expect the PAX 3 to be able to reduce the temperature of the oven faster or to a lower temperature for greater conservation of your battery and herbs. The PAX 3 will know when you are ready to vape again via these intelligent sensors and boost the temperature rapidly to your preferred temperature for a seamless, efficient experience.
And for a more efficient experience, PAX is also including a Half Pack Oven Lid stock for those who don't care to pack a full load.
PAX Vapor App
The PAX Vapor App will deliver a user customizable experience to the PAX 3 and makes the firmware upgradeable. The PAX Vapor App will connect to your smartphone (and maybe a tablet) via Bluetooth. We expect it to open up temperature control in 1 degree increments so that the user can control what temperatures the 4 included settings are. The PAX 2 operated between 360-420 F. Will the PAX 3 open up this temperature range? We'll have to wait and see.
PAX is saying this about the app:
"Additional app features available for PAX 3 include dynamic modes: pre-designed vapor experiences for distinct occasions that optimize temperature settings, vapor production and LED brightness."
We expect some of the hidden features of the PAX 2 like "stealth mode" to be included in the app.
The PAX 3 is equipped with haptic feedback letting you know when your vapor is ready, when it is entering stand by mode or when it is turning off. Another way your PAX communicates what your vaporizer is up to.
Faster charge time
The PAX 3 is said to have the same battery life as the PAX 2 but with a 60 minute charge time instead of the current 90. The battery capacity was also slightly expanded from 3000mAh to 3500mAh, but again no gain in battery life.
Though the same size and weight as the PAX 2, the PAX 3 is wrapped in mirror-polished anodized aluminum and available in silver, gunmetal, gold and teal.
