Cleaning a dry herb vaporizer is not as hard you may think...

Dry herb vaporizers need a deep cleaning every once in a while for the best performance and the best flavors, and it’s not as hard as you may think. It just takes a  a soak of a few key pieces and a quick wipe down. Let's get into it.

Quick summary

  • Clean the vapor path and mouthpiece
  • Clean the oven
  • Rinse and dry loose components
  • Reassemble
  • Run a burnoff

Step 1: Clean the vapor path and mouthpiece

Start with the pieces that see the most action. Remove the mouthpiece and any components from the vapor path like glass stems, filter screens, and any silicone o-rings.

Soak your mouthpiece, glass stem, filter screens, and any other dirty metal, glass, or ceramic parts in isopropyl alcohol or warm, soapy water for 30 to 60 minutes. Give it more time for a deeper cleanse.

Do not soak any silicone o-rings or plastic components unless stated otherwise. Some vapes, like the Mighty+ and Crafty+, have exceptions.

Step 2: Clean the oven

For light messes, take a cleaning brush and clear out any leftover debris.

For tough build-up, dip a cotton swab in alcohol or warm, soapy water and wipe the inside of the oven. Stay light and careful. Don’t flood it or drip alcohol down into the electronics. Hold your vape upside down while you clean it to keep the internals safe.

Step 3: Rinse and dry loose components

Once the soaked pieces are nice and clean, give them a good rinse and wipe them clean. Set them out on a paper towel until they’re completely dry.

Step 4: Reassemble

Once everything’s dry, put your vape back together. Double-check that all seals and connections sit tight and clean. If you removed any silicone or o-rings, put them back in their correct spots and make sure they’re seated properly.

Step 5: Run a Burnoff

Finally, we’ll run a quick burnoff to dissolve any leftover residue before it's ready for use. Turn your vaporizer on to its highest temperature setting and let it run through a full session until it turns itself off.

Done!

How often should you clean?

That depends on how often you use your vaporizer. If you notice funky smells or weird tastes, it might be time to clean.

Pro tips to clean less often

Here are a few tips to keep your vaporizer cleaner for longer:

  • Brush out the oven after each session. Don’t leave a full load inside for too long.
  • Use dosing capsules. They keep messes contained and your oven clean.
  • Grab replacement parts and swap often. Some vapes offer replacement screens, mouthpieces, and even entire cooling units.
