The CFC 2.0 is a budget-friendly vaporizer with fast heat up time, full digital temperature control, a pocketable size, respectable clouds and a free water pipe adapter. The design flaws of the original CFC that led to cracking plastic and hot mouthpieces have been tackled, and the result is a solid little unit that checks a lot of boxes for a vaporizer under $100. That said, it has more competition this time around than it did before.

Solid vapor quality

Boundless likes clouds over flavor, and the CFC 2.0 stays true to form, with vapor that is typical of this price point. Clouds start showing up around 370° F, and anything below 390° F tastes decent, but above that it starts to degrade. The taste at the top temperatures has a little bite to it, but the vapor’s not hot since the mouthpiece does a good job of cooling it down.

Heats up quickly

The Boundless CFC 2.0 is ready for a quick session anywhere, heating up to 390° F in 25 seconds, and 446° F in 45 seconds. It’s so fast, in fact, that sometimes we don’t notice it’s ready to go. Haptic feedback would be a nice touch, but that’s asking a lot for a budget vaporizer.

Any temperature you want

Digital temperature control is a rare feature under CAD$100, and at its release the CFC 2.0 is the lowest priced vaporizer we carry that supports it. With a range of 140 - 446° F (60 - 230° C) the temperature is adjustable in one degree increments, and scrolls quickly when you hold the button in. Combined with its fast heat up time, and it sometimes feels like the temperature is changing instantly.

Boundless CFC 2.0 Review Battery Life

Good battery life

The CFC 2.0 comes with a non-removable 18650 battery that lasts for around 10 - 12 sessions at 390° F, and we got around 8 - 10 sessions when finishing at the top temperature of 446° F. That’s good enough for an all-day vape, or a couple of nights without worrying about the charge. Just make sure to pay attention when the battery runs low, because you can’t use it while charging, which could take up to three hours.

Water pipe adapter included

The team at Boundless loves using vaporizers with a bubbler, and we get the benefit of a free water pipe adapter (WPA) with the CFC 2.0. The plastic WPA fits both 14mm and 18mm female glass connections, and the CFC 2.0 sits out of the way on your bubbler, unlike the more awkward one that costs an extra $20 for the Starry. The CFC 2.0 isn’t as strong on a water pipe as other Boundless vaporizers, but it won’t cost you any more to find out with this one.

Boundless CFC 2.0 Review Temperature

It’s only CAD$98

Did we mention the CAD$98 price tag? Pocketable clouds with great battery life and full digital temperature control at this price is an impressive feature set! Plus, the free water pipe adapter gives the Boundless CFC 2.0 a unique value for vaporizers under CAD$100.

Vapes any amount of dry herbs well

The CFC 2.0’s oven holds around 0.3 grams when fully packed, but doesn’t need that much to perform well. Air flow is average, and only gets uncomfortable if the oven is tightly packed. Even if it’s only a little bit full, the herbs are fully extracted without stirring, and the oven has a wide lip for easy loading without the mess. It doesn’t come with a stainless steel mesh pad for extracts, so you’ll need to get creative if you want to vape more than dry herbs.

What learning curve?

The CFC 2.0 couldn’t be easier to use, and that’s a good thing, since it has enough battery life to share. Load it, turn it on and hit it when it’s ready. The only thing to look out for is the mouthpiece, which sits off-centered if you put it on backwards, but will still work.

Boundless CFC 2.0 Review Size in hand

Better build quality than the original

The CFC 2.0 is a little bit bigger and heavier than the original, which had a teardrop shape that tapered at the oven and mouthpiece, creating hot spots and cracks in the outer shell. The redesigned CFC 2.0 doesn’t taper. So it stays cooler, giving us hope that this one will hold together better. It’s also the first Boundless vaporizer with an outer coating that doesn’t disintegrate when we spray it with isopropyl alcohol - finally!

Three year warranty

Boundless covers the CFC 2.0 with a three year warranty on any workmanship and defects, and covers the battery for one year. Like all of our products, the Boundless CFC 2.0 is also covered by the Planet of the Vapes 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

For best results

The CFC 2.0 is a conduction vaporizer that works best when used like a PAX 2, X MAX Starry, or Flowermate V5.0S. If you like to take a bunch of little puffs or sips, pack the oven full and push it down tightly for more flavor and punch. If long, slow pulls are your thing, pack it full with a gentle tamp, so the air can more easily pass through the herbs. Pay attention when you put the mouthpiece back on, because it will work in either direction, but only sits flush if you put it on correctly.

Typical cleaning and maintenance

Cleaning the CFC 2.0 is easy and you’ll need a glass of isopropyl alcohol, a glass of warm, soapy water and a cotton swab. You can soak the screens in isopropyl alcohol, but the plastic mouthpiece housing and silicone gasket should only be wiped down with isopropyl alcohol before soaking in the warm, soapy water so they don’t get splotchy or crack. Use a cotton swab on the deepest part of the mouthpiece where you see the most buildup.

Boundless CFC 2.0 Review Build Quality

Who’s the CFC 2.0 for?

At CAD$98, the Boundless CFC 2.0 is good for beginners or someone who wants to try portable vaporizing without big up-front costs. Its small size and digital temperature controls make it a solid portable at this price point, with cool vapor that tastes good on the lower temps and punches on the higher ones. We think it’s one of the better options under CAD$100, and the included water pipe adapter is a unique value add.

Who’s the CFC 2.0 NOT for?

The CFC 2.0 is a basic, budget-friendly vaporizer, so you won’t find any next-level performance or features. If you have other vaporizers to play with, there’s nothing new here other than the low price point, and another CAD$20 to CAD$30 can net you the X MAX Starry’s better build quality with removable battery, or the Boundless CF for bigger clouds.

Final thoughts

Boundless' CFC 2.0 could shape up to be a very popular entry-level vaporizer. Boundless addressed the original’s durability issues, but kept what we liked about it - an affordable price, digital temperature control, and cloudy sessions to go with the pocketable size. It has more competition for your dollars at this price than it did a year ago, but the included water pipe adapter sets it apart in what is still a small group of decent vaporizers under CAD$100.
