Review: Flowermate’s V5 Nano Packs in Full-Sized Features

The Nano may not be the biggest vaporizer in the Flowermate V5 Series, but it feels like the flagship.

The latest iteration in the Flowermate V5 Series, the Nano, drops the numbers from its name and picks up a sleek, blacked out look and some new features. Despite its small size, it adds a swappable battery to the mix, a feature we’re always happy to see.

But that extra functionality has brought the price up to CAD$159, slightly undercutting Flowermate’s normally budget-friendly mindset. It’s not a bank-breaker, but it does make some of the Nano’s competitors look good. Let’s see how it holds up in our Flowermate Nano review.

Big vapor, little package

For such a small vaporizer, the Flowermate Nano manages to produce impressive clouds with little effort. It’s big on flavor, and on vapor density. The temperature can go as high as 446° F, but we found the sweet spot fell between 390° F and 400° F -- any higher and the vapor gets pretty harsh.

Mostly open airflow

The Nano’s airflow is only slightly restrictive, which fits right in line with most Flowermate vaporizers. Only the larger models are slightly more open. How tightly you pack the oven will make a big difference when it comes to resistance and airflow.

Flowermate V5 Nano Batteries

Swappable batteries are the best

If there’s one feature we love to see on a vaporizer, it’s swappable batteries -- there's a reason it shows up so early in our review. Not only does it prevent the vaporizer from turning to a paperweight, once the battery’s life is over, but it lets you keep some extras on hand. When you run out of power, simply swap in a new battery and keep going. Our Nano came with a solid 20 amp, 2,500 mAh battery, which produced 40 to 50 minutes of vaping, depending on temperature settings. That should be enough for six to ten ovens.

Easy to pick up and use

Like most Flowermates, the Nano has a simple control scheme that’s intuitive and straightforward. Click the power button five times to turn it on or off, and use the up and down buttons to raise or lower the temperature in one degree increments. Hold the power button down for two seconds to engage the heater, and wait for the vibration to let you know the Flowermate Nano is up to temperature. If you like, you can change from Celsius to Fahrenheit by holding up and down at the same time.

Improved build quality

The V5 Nano takes Flowermate’s typical look and updates it with some subtle touches that add up to a big difference. All of the components are uniform black, with translucent glass for the screen and mouthpiece that help tie the look together. Even the inside of the oven is black ceramic, so it won’t show stains. It isn’t just cosmetic, either. The oven and mouthpiece lids are easy to use, and feel solid, with well built latches. The Nano feels great in hand; it’s a very pocketable, and palmable, size.

Heats up quick

Our test unit was able to reach 390° F in just 35 seconds, and reached its maximum temperature of 446° F in under 40. That’s quick enough that you won’t be sitting around waiting for it, and it’s right in the ballpark with other vaporizers at the same price point.

One Year warranty

Flowermate covers the Nano with a one year warranty on any workmanship and defects, and covers the battery for 90 days. Like all of our products, the Flowermate Nano is also covered by the Planet of the Vapes 100% Satisfaction Guarantee.

For best results

The Flowermate Nano is a conduction vaporizer, so you’ll see the best clouds if you take slow sips and short puffs, particularly near the top of the temperature range. If the vapor starts to feel hot, or the mouthpiece gets warm, try taking shorter, shallower draws. The herbs shouldn’t burn, even at the highest temperatures, so if you don’t mind the flavor, you can crank the heat. While the pods are a nice touch, we found they need more time and heat for similar hits. If you’re using them, you’ll want to crank the heat to at least 400° F.

Cleaning and maintenance

The black ceramic doesn’t stain easily, and it makes cleaning easier too. We recommend brushing out the oven after each use, preferably while it’s still warm, but not too hot. You can blow through the mouthpiece to clear any leftover bits from the screen. We’re working on a full cleaning and maintenance guide, so make sure to check back for all the best tips on getting your Nano squeaky clean.

What about the other Flowermates?

Even though its name may not imply it, we feel like the Nano is the flagship Flowermate. It’s the only vaporizer in the line with removable batteries, and the build quality is better than any of the officially named V5 series options. The Nano also boasts the sleeker, black accents that aren’t on the other Flowermate offerings. It fits right into the middle of the lineup in terms of size, but it does have a slightly hotter vapor output.

Who is the Nano for?

Flowermate fans looking for the best possible version of the V5 series will definitely appreciate the Nano. It packs in some much-appreciated features, and looks better too. Its style will appeal to new and old vaporizer enthusiasts alike, and it’s one of the more attractive options. It runs best below 400° F, so it’s a great choice for people who like flavorful, low temperature hits.

Flowermate V5 Nano Vaporizer First LookWho isn’t the Nano for?

At CAD$159, the Flowermate Nano is a bit more expensive than the other V5 series vaporizers, but it’s competition from elsewhere is more concerning. There are plenty of options at the CAD$129 price point, like the XMAX Starry, that undercut the Nano’s sticker shock. If you’re looking for a truly wallet-friendly option, there are others. It’s also a bit harsh at the high end, as most smaller vaporizers will be.

Final thoughts

The Nano brings some important changes to the Flowermate V5 line that help modernize, and add some value, to the already-populated lineup. Removable batteries, improved build quality, and a sleek look are all changes that run deeper than the surface, and noticeably improve the vaping experience.

If you’re considering a Flowermate V5, the Nano might be worth the extra CAD$40. If you aren’t set on a Flowermate, there are other options out there that you should check out.
