Update May 16, 2018: The Nano has arrived! Check out our updated Flowermate V5 Nano Review for our full impressions on this compact, stylish vaporizer.
Flowermate continues to fill out its V5 series with the Flowermate Nano, the seventh vaporizer in the collection. Despite its pocketable size, it’s cut from a metal chassis in matte black, for a sleek look, and brings swappable 18650 batteries to the Flowermate family. While we wait for the final production unit, this First Look should give you a peek at what’s coming up from Flowermate.

Cool, tasty vapor
The Nano brings with it trademark Flowermate vapor, which pack plenty of flavor into comfortable clouds, at least at low temperatures. Crank it up to the highest temperature -- 446° F -- for deep, dark herbs without burning. The mouthpiece is a bit shorter than other Flowermate vaporizers, so it does get a bit hot after constant use, and the vapor comes off a bit hotter than it does with longer mouthpieces.
50 second heat up time
The Nano takes advantage of swappable 18650 batteries, so which brand and model you have will alter the heat up time. The included battery brought the Nano up to 390° F in about 64 seconds, while our more standard Samsung and Boundless batteries shaved about 15 seconds off of that time. Flowermate said this was likely an anomaly with our battery, so we’ll hold off on sharing full heat up times until the production units are ready.
Compact and familiar
Despite the name, the Nano is actually larger than the Flowermate Mini, and smaller than the mid-size V5.0S. It shares the same design language, with an anodized aluminum shell, digital temperature display, and three button controls. It has the signature rounded edges, but they have a slightly harder edge, and the micro-USB port is now on the side, below the buttons, so it charges standing upright.
All black vaporizer
The compact Flowermate Nano doesn’t sacrifice looks for size. Everything on the vaporizer, from the oven, to the mouthpiece, to the display’s cover, is blacked out.
Three buttons, no problems
Flowermate keeps it simple with three buttons -- one for power, and two for controlling the temperature. The pre-production model we spent time with had a bit of an awkward bottom latch, but Flowermate will be redesigning it before it launches officially. The Nano is intuitive, and even new vaporizer users shouldn’t have trouble figuring it out.
Dry herb and concentrates
The V5 Nano includes both dry herb and concentrate pods. That said, herbal-first vaporizers don’t always handle stickier substances well. We’ll have more to say on that in the full review, after we’ve had time to fully test out the Nano’s features.
Swappable 18650 batteries
Now for the Nano’s star feature -- swappable batteries. It’s a super useful feature that we’re glad to see popping up on more vaporizers. The Flowermate Nano uses standard 18650 batteries, which each provide six to eight sessions of five minutes each. Plus, you can always grab an extra and bring it along, in case you run out.
Room for improvement
The model we spent time with was a pre-production unit, and Flowermate has already mentioned a number of changes coming to it before it’s widely available. Whether those changes will address the mouthpiece heat or latch issues remains to be seen, but we’ve provided our feedback to Flowermate. We’ll have a full review with more information on the Nano once it’s ready for public consumption.
Who is the Nano for?
The V5 Nano fits right in the middle of Flowermate’s lineup, with the same tasty vapor, and an appealing feature set. The swappable batteries stand out among the line, so if that’s a key feature, this is one of a few vaporizers worth checking out. There are still some changes coming to the Nano, so make sure to keep an eye on our blog, Instagram stories or sign up for the Planet of the Vapes newsletter to be the first to know when we have the final Flowermate Nano in hand.
